Shoot 10 - Work Record
When taking pictures for shoot 10, I wanted to capture and document technology and means for the ways that young people communicate via technology. The series of images are taken in my house and in the house of my friend's. I chose to focus on this because technology and communication are a massive part of the youth of today. The series of images show how different youth culture now is today and the evolution of subcultures and trends.
In this image, It is of an apple mac computer, the angle and frame of the shot is effective, as it gives a close-up shoot of the device itself. The lighting in the image is warm and bright and so gives a cool effect. The illuminated key board contrasts with the warm glow from another light source. The youth of today's lives are ruled by technology, computers are a massive part of the way that young people communicate as the device has all types of social media that's used. The dark keypad and edges of screen of the laptop really contrasts against the bright warm glow of the red/orange light. The image has varying texture, the smoothness of the laptop is and the keyboard is clear and contrasting.
This image is of my friend on his new phone, the image seems to capture the obsession that youth with technology as in the image 3 different screens of devices are visible. When editing this image I turned up the contrast a little, this seemed to make the lighting of the shot more refined and focused as there are a lot of devices emitting light, and so is prone to noise. The angle of the shot gives an inside look into the lives of young people, in their rooms communicating via technology, it also gives a perspective as though the viewer is actually on the phone and other devices. The shot has good depth of field, as there are many different focus points within the shot.
Progression: When shooting for my actual exam, I want to incorporate all the different elements of youth culture that I have captured in my shoots, and put them together to make a final 2 shoots of work that represent the significance and cultural importance of youth subculture. I want to blend all my styles, techniques and ideas used in my unit 2 to collectively effect and fuel my final exam.
Shoot 9 - Work Record
When shooting for series 9, I decided to take a collection of images of my friend in his car, he has only recently started driving and so I thought this would be a good example of youth culture and the significance of what getting a car, means to young people, the freedom and responsibility. I took the series of images outside and inside the car, mostly out on the roads.
In this shoot I used the realistic everyday-life style of Martin Parr, I think this gives a good realistic reflection on my work.In this image it is of Adam sitting in his car, relaxed and looking off into the distance, the image connotes freedom and the power and responsibility of having your own car and being able to go where ever you want whenever you feel like it. The angle of the shot is essential to the perspective we get from the shot we are on the same level as the subject and so get a direct view of him and the interior of the car I took the image outside of the car with the door open. When editing the image I turned up the contrast and lowered the brightness a little because there was an excess of light, the contrast really brings out the difference of colour of the blue seats, burgundy jumper and black dashboard and interior.
In this image, it is an action shot that I took from inside the car, as we were on our journey. I like the perspective of the shot, this was due to the angle of the picture, the image gives us the perspective of being in the car an looking out to the road, the windscreen wipers are visible, this makes the content of the image come alive more as it shows the appeal of being able to drive because of the accessibility of everywhere. I like the tonality of the shot as the light toned blankness of the sky contrasts well with the light toned, mute green coloured houses, this makes the whole image aesthetically pleasing and quaint.
Progression: When taking pictures for the last shoot, shoot 10, I need to examine what I believe as the most culturally rich subculture for youth, something that changes with the times and rules the mass of young people . In this shoot I feel like I have explored a sub-culture that I know little about and therefore not on my subjective vision.

Shoot 8 - Work Record
When shooting for the eighth unit in youth culture, I chose to focus on party/rave scene, culture, this spans from late 80's, early 90's where disco/techno was a huge scene in partying. The whole shoot is taken in my friends bedroom, all the lighting/smoke machine equipment belongs to him. In this shoot I wanted to once again show the cultural significance of the rave scene.
In this image, it is of my friend as the main subject exhaling smoke, from a vaporized pen, his face is in the top left corner, beams of light are cast on his face, this illuminates parts of his face, the smoke gives a really cool effect against the already smokey room and beams of light that ascend diagonally within the picture, the green colored beams of light contrast really well with the less colourful, more natural yellow which creates a more reflective mood in the lighting. The contrast that the subject has against the light and negative space really creates a good frame of shot. The image seems to effectively represent the stimulation that certain people get from being immersed in lights and loud music, apart from the party atmosphere, the picture also shows the enjoyment that youth can get from being able to operate something that can essentially make people get up and have a good time,
This image was taken my a go-pro contrary to the camera that I normally always use, being the Canon 400D. The camera that I used in a series of images for this shoot, gave a different effect, it gave a fish-eye perspective to the images, which broadened frame and size of what was captured in the image, this is clearly beneficial in capturing the different beams of light and directions that they veer off in. This image captures a head on view from the path of a beam of light, the rays of light disperse and go out to each edge/area of the image, this gives a really cool effect because we see how light separates. The image seems to capture the spirit of the rave/party scene.
Progression: When taking more images for youth culture I want to incorporate more not only things that interest me and are on my subjective vision, but things I know little about and have to go out of my way to shoot and find out about. I feel I have incorporated some of the ideas of artistic preference that I needed to progress from shoot 7.
