Shoot 6 - Work Record

For Shoot 6 I wanted to produce a simple selection of images, I decided to shoot a series of deadpan photos in the studio with a standard white backdrop. I like my results as I think they are very cut back, natural and raw, there is very limited photoshopping in the whole series in shoot 6, the repetitive nature of all the shots signify the message of the shoot, as identity is a massive part  of the culture of youth. The way you look is often everything to a young person, the way you look is a reflection of your identity; often being (character, music, interests, culture etc). This is why I chose to focus on how fashion defines identity.

In this image of Grace, I told her to pose deadpan to the camera, that was all, she chose to put her hood up, that could show part of the subjects identity, why they have their hood up? etc. The clothing she is wearing has the English rugby emblem, this therefore tells us straight away about an interest she has, the principals of the sport may be the way in which she leads her life. The image is very natural and unedited, however I have added some more contrast, and taken down the brightness a little, this seems to bring out the depth of colors and where the light falls a little stronger. I like the frame of the shot as the negative unused space contrasts well with the subject in a very simple manner, and the shot encompasses all the important parts of the subject and what she is wearing.

In this image I turned up the contrast and lowered the brightness a little, and also decided to put a black and white filter on the entirety of the shot, I did this in order to make the shot more dramatic and make the tones more distinct and contrasting, obviously what the subject is wearing is a prime example of how the editing of the image has improved the message of the shot, as the subject has got on a band t-shirt and so we see a part of his identity, his personal tastes and the things we could possibly interpret from his taste in music, this all forms the identity of the subject. The frame of the image is also good because all the negative space makes him stand out even more clearer.

Progression: When shooting more series's for youth culture- I need to add diversity and context to my topic. In this shoot I feel like I have successfully demonstrated the objective of shooting in different places because Shoot 6 is the first time I've shot in the college studio for Youth culture, this explores different techniques in photography.
