Shoot 7 - Work Record

When shooting for Shoot 7, I decided to focus on skateboarding as a part of youth culture, I took the pictures around some local streets in Broxbourne, street skating is a massive part of the skating scene that youth started in the 60's, I tried to capture the fun and relaxed nature of skating in this series. As my subject I used my friend Adam, I only have one person in each image however this doesn't seem to get in the way of the significance of the form of culture.
In this shoot, I feel I have used some of the same styles that Tom wood uses in hi photography, as this series is just of me and my friend hanging around places where we live, skating and doing habitual things, this is similar to Woods style as he tends to capture very normal ordinary scenes of young people hanging around outside.

In this image, the frame is very effective as it captures many different components of the image that are all essential to the composition of the image, the scene and setting reflect the DIY enjoyment of going out for no reason other than for fun. The lighting of the image seems, to hit the subject and cast shadow and make the car appear darker and shiny, contrasting with the the lighter tones of the rest of the photo. When editing this image I decided to only raise the contrast a little and lower the brightness a little, this was just to improve the clarity and contrast in depth of field, as the houses contrast well with the main subject being Adam, there is a lot of different parts to this image.

In this, only the subjects legs, bottom of torso and bottom of skateboard are visible, however this is still effective as it shows the processes and components of skating, as often you have to carry the board to a place suitable to skate, and you can see all the different parts of the board from this angle, such as; trucks, wheels and board, The setting of the image shows a very normal suburban street. The editing of this image consisted of adding a little bit of brightness to the composition of the shot, this just picks up the clarity and resolution of the shot, making it brighter. In the image you can see where a ray if light has hit the path of the lense making a mark on the image, this adds to the overall bright and happy feel of the shot.

Progression: When shooting more images for Youth culture, I need to show link and distinction between significance of whatever topic of youth culture I'm studying and the artistic preference used to take the shot, I need to further and keep exploring these ideas in my work.
