Shoot 1 - Work Record

When shooting for youth culture, I decided to focus on art and music as these are massive culturally important art forms that are popular in youth. I photographed round Harlow College in music, art and graphics lessons.

In this image, I tried to capture the creative process and the materials used to make the students art. The angle and frame of the image gives a good view of all the work and processes. When editing this image I turned up the contrast, I think this has worked effectively as the colours seem to stand out more. The tonality of the image is very light, airy and mute however darker and more vibrant in other places, for example the white sheets of paper really contrast against the dark pencil drawings on them.

I took this image in the Music department, of some students practicing together. In this I decided to take a photo of the guitarist, I wanted to portray an accurate representation of guitar. On this particular image I used flash this is different to all my other shots from my first shoot as I try to refrain on a topic like art and music as I want to give natural portrayal of the arts, therefore when editing this image I turned down the brightness to give a more natural feel to the shot, I think this worked effectively, this is a good variable to play around with because the exposure would have been too overbearing for the shot if I hadn't changed it. I like the angle and frame as it shows a direct shot of him, the guitar and the equipment needed for instruments.

Progression: In future when shooting my other photo shoots for Youth Culture, I could try to photograph other significant sub-cultures within youth using some of the same techniques that I have used in this particular shoot, also I could try to shoot with different people. Overall I am happy with this shoot and feel like I have managed to achieve my aim of photographing students in their art and music classes at Harlow College.
